A recent study conducted by Aetna and the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine found that there is a relationship between periodontal treatment and the cost of care for several chronic diseases.  The study, as reported in “California Broker” in March 2007, was of 145,000 people over a 2 year period.

Early periodontal care reduced medical claims costs for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and stroke.  In fact, those who received treatment had a 21% lower risk of getting diabetes, a 19% lower risk of getting coronary artery disease, and a 17% lower risk for strokes.
